How to calculate a tip on a bill

A tip (gratuity) is extra money you pay on top of the bill for service. In the U.S., 15–20% is common at sit-down restaurants.

Tip amount = bill × (tip percent ÷ 100). Example: 18% tip on $85 → 85 × 18 ÷ 100 = $15.30 tip → total $100.30.

Per person: divide the total (or just the tip) by how many people are splitting. This tool does both in one step.
